Neste RE™ is a raw material for plastics production based on two components: the renewable component and the recycled component, both of which are sustainably produced.
The renewable component is primarily derived from waste and residue oils and fats, such as used cooking oil, and the recycled component comes from chemically-recycled plastic waste.
The renewable component of Neste RE™ is produced from 100% bio-based raw materials processed using Neste’s proprietary NEXBTL refining technology at its facilities in Porvoo, Finland, Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and Singapore. The refining process converts these renewable raw materials into renewable hydrocarbons in a liquid form or gaseous renewable propane.
The renewable component of Neste RE™ can be used separately or as a mix with the recycled component to produce more sustainable polymers.
Neste RE™ is a drop-in solution that is compatible with current production infrastructures and can be used to produce biobased polymers on its own or together with fossil oil-based feedstock.
The materials produced with Neste RE™ are of high quality and identical to traditional plastic. This makes it a suitable choice for a wide variety of applications.
The recycled component of Neste RE™ consists of chemically-recycled plastic waste that cannot be recycled mechanically, such as colored, multilayered, or multi-material packaging and films.
Neste RE™ has a wide range of applications across various industries, including:
- Food and Beverage
- Medical applications
- Personal and Home Care
- Packaging
- Automotive
- Home Goods and Furniture
- Building and Construction
- Electronics
